CPD Hours

The Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 (National Law) was placed into
effect on 1 July 2010. Under the National Law, the Board has the power to set registration
standards and there is now a mandatory requirement for registrants to participate in
continuing professional development (CPD).

From 1 July 2010 all dental practitioners in Australia will have to meet the CPD
requirements set by the Dental Board of Australia’s Registration Standard which has
been approved by Ministerial Council.

The new rules apply to every registered dental practitioner in Australia including
dentists, specialists, hygienists, oral health therapists, dental therapists and prosthetists
except those registered under student, non-practising and limited registration for teaching
or research categories of registration.

It may not apply to those registrants with limited registration for postgraduate training
and supervised practice.

As a service to AOS financial members a CPD hour summary facility has been implemented within the AOS website. To view your printable attendance summary detailing hours accrued from attending AOS events from July 2010, log into the site with your member user name & password, and navigate to the ‘Federal’ pages, then ‘Member Resources’, then ‘CPD Summary’. **Attendance records are currently available for NSW branch meetings, SA branch meetings and the 2011 Federal conference. Other branch records will be available soon.
