Dr Robert Santosa completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Adelaide in 1996. He then completed his specialty degree in Prosthodontics from the University of Sydney in 2001. Soon after graduation, Robert was awarded a prestigious fellowship by the International Team of Implantology (ITI) at the Centre for Implant Dentistry, University of Florida, Gainesville, USA.
Upon his return to Australia, Robert maintains his link with Sydney University as a lecturer at undergraduate level. He also lectures nationally and internationally on topics regarding implant dentistry. Robert is the past immediate president of Australasian Osseointegration Society (NSW Branch). He is a Fellow of the ITI, and a Member of the International College of Prosthodontist.
Implant Complications Encountered at a Specialist Practice
There is an inherent risk for complications to arise from every medical and dental procedure performed.
Possible causes of these complications are outlined, ranging from treatment planning to dental laboratory issues. This presentation highlights problems of poor technical decision-making and execution as well as engineering and component failures encountered in a specialist prosthodontic referral practice. Understanding of both biological pathogenic mechanisms, technical limitations as well proper comprehensive treatment planning is the key for the prevention and successful management of implant complications.
